certified best method (working 2025) (unpatched)

soooo 4/3 is the only solution? the teacher is wrong? omg
Technically yeah but seeing as the papers already been released it’s probably too late to change:(. In the hsc they would probably require you to sub k back in and test if the simultaneous has a solution or not but that’s such a sac

i got 1/3 for it and it was a mark for attempting the question
apparently only one kid got the full thing right from my class and my teachers explanation is too complicated surely theres an easier way
also i don't know why the fuck the teachers would even ask you this question for math advanced, this is by no means suppose to be a hard question as evident by the fact 55% of students scored 2 or 3 out of 3, this is suitable for the VCE math method since they do matricies, making this question much much easier. (this is basically a textbook question for the VCE)

my teacher wants ppl to drop from advanced to standard n the only way she can do that is by making very hard exams that no one can pass

this question can't be asked in math advanced cause its way too difficult without knowing matricies (in reality its one of the easiest questions in the vce exam since 55% scored atleast 2 out of 3 marks), its like asking someone to sketch a cubic graph with exact turning points without them knowing calculus in a year 10 exam

I totally agree. There is a separate section for this topic and many similar questions in VCE textbook. So it is an easy question for VCE students.
Although it is solvable by general quadratic knowledge, I think it is unfair to ask such a question in an exam without showing similar questions in class.
Btw, determinants are not in Math Methods syllabus in VCE either. So such solutions should not be accepted even if they are neater solutions.
