when we do assessments and trials and get our rank for it, say if i get ranked 3rd, then in my actual hsc, wouldnt it be the 3rd highest hsc mark + my mark that i got in school?? if its like that then why does you doing good on the actual hsc matter bc wont u alr have ur mark?? so even if you get like the 20th mark, since you got ranked 3rd wouldnt you get that mark?

As far as I'm aware, it's not exactly just 3rd highest HSC mark, etc. - I'm gonna copy over my explanation from another thread:

How it the averaging actually works to the best of my knowledge:
1. You get your internal ranks
2. Say the highest internal mark was 60 and the lowest was 20, and the highest in the HSC was 80 and the lowest was 60 - the highest rank internal will get 80 as their internal mark, and the lowest rank internal will get 60 as their internal mark (externals are not affected)
3. If you're in between, then you get moved accordingly! So if you say ranked 2nd with a 54 internally, that would probably get changed to approximately 77. Note that though your actual internal mark doesn't do anything, it still determines how well you moderate, so it's not purely rank that matters.
4. Then they average this score and your external mark!

Take this with a grain of salt because I don't know how accurate this is, but I just wanted to put this here!

Cause if everyone else does well then u can ensure that the 3rd highest mark is the highest it can be. And then if everyone does well then everyone, no matter how well u rank, well do good
but then whats the point of trying after you get ur rank?? basically if you get a bad rank are you cooked

no cause if everyone does well the lowest mark will still be higher than ur internal so you'll still do better. So say u rank last with an internal mark of 50 but then in the actual hsc the lowest mark is 80 then you'll still get an 80 for ur external mark
