Would anyone be able to explain what this dot point entails?
  • the nature and rate of change which affects ecosystem functioning
I'm thinking it's referring to rate of change over a long period of time, and how it shaps all the processes within the ecosystem and how they interact, but I'm not too sure.

Or is it referring to rate of change in terms of ecosystem destruction and how much humans are impacting on it and how quickly, but I tend to think that is the next dot point ('human impacts (both positive and negative'). I don't think its referring to natural changes in ecosystem functioning, but I don't know.

The Heinemann textbook is pretty useless in this regard (for Intertidal Wetlands, it has it together with 'adjustements in response to natural stress'). I don't have much access to other resources, and there's not much online for this, nor even anything to do with HSC geography at all.
