absolution: I would argue recent papers are harder than the older ones...

Whoa. 50/84? Even 60/84 seems quite low for a 45/50.

I did the 1988 3U paper for practice and I got ~81/84 (not exactly sure since no marks are allocated for each part). Could that be a 95-96 (aligned) if I got a similar raw mark this year? Coz that'd be cool.

Rench that mark would get you a 99 aligned, pretty much for every year.

IMHO it is MUCH more difficult to get that sort of mark in the HSC:
all the trials/prev HSC (which have boosted your marks) you have done are based on q's that appeared in prev. HSC's.
There is always a q's worth or so of material in each HSC that would be unfamiliar and harder/a new type of q which requires a bit of luck to get the marks in (getting right setting out etc).

As an example; look at say the 2003 papers and a collection of 2003 trials, and after doing 20 2003 trials your marks in the 2003 trials may get inflated significantly, but the difference wouldn't be as large for the actual HSC exam.

OK.
So to reach my goal of 94, I'd need ~73/84? I think that'd doable, as long as Q1-6 are OK.

How do they distribute aligned marks between 91 and 99? If a raw mark of 81/84 can get you 99, then would 82 and 83 and also get you 99?

No they would give you 100 if someone in the form had gotten 100% on the test.

Well since the only way you get 100 aligned is to get 100 raw, does that mean that a range of raw scores could get you 99 aligned? For instance, if 81/84 gets you 99 then wouldn't 82 and 83/84 also get 99?

Yes, that is possible - it depends on where they set the band E3/E4 cut-off.
