raw marks, internal mark, HSC mark?? (1 Viewer)

So i know that your HSC mark is an avg of your raw examination mark and assessment (internals) mark but im confused as to where scaling takes place.
for eg, with eng adv, a raw mark of 83.5 can be a band 6 (90) so is it the raw hsc mark that is being aligned or the avg of the raw hsc mark and internal mark being aligned??

An HSC mark is not an average of a raw Examination Mark and a moderated Assessment Mark, it is the average of an aligned Examination Mark and a moderated (and aligned) Assessment Mark. Those are the marks that you receive, i.e. that you are made aware of by NESA.

On the other hand, a raw HSC mark is the average of a raw Examination Mark (that is, without any alignment) and a moderated (but not aligned) Assessment Mark. You are not made aware of your raw HSC marks by NESA.

Once your raw HSC marks are determined, UAC then applies the scaling process, resulting in scaled HSC marks. Subsequently, your scaled HSC marks will be used in determining your ATAR.

If the mark values that you are referring to for English Advanced are from https://rawmarks.info/, it is important to note (if you are not already aware) that the data that can be accessed consists of raw and aligned Examination Marks, not HSC marks, where the former (that is, the aligned Examination Mark) contributes 50% of a student's HSC mark (the one that they are made aware of). In such a case, the raw Examination Mark of 83.5 in 2022 was aligned, therefore becoming an aligned Examination Mark of 90.

No, the 83.5 is a raw Examination Mark and the 90 is an aligned Examination Mark, with the latter mark being the one that you are made aware of by NESA. However, if you also wish to find out your raw Examination Marks, you can request them from NESA.

When you receive your HSC results, you will be made aware of three elements:

• Your Assessment Marks (internal marks)
• Your Examination Marks (HSC exam marks)
• Your overall HSC marks (the average of both aforementioned marks)
