I have the same problem as you...I need 2 more related texts for Raw. You could try using the film "The Shawshank Redemption"....deals with institutions.

Dose anyone have any related texts for Raw? Please! *gets down on knees and grovels towards the computer screen*

If anyone can help feel free to email me at: GemmaSpunks@hotmail.com

Okay you could use:

Patch Adams
Music by Archie Roach (too many to list)
Treaty - Yothu Yindi
"big hands" play (about 20pages long)
poetry by Kath Walker

Hope this is of some help.

I am in the middle of reading "A Time To Kill, and I was just wondering: would it be a good related material for RAW or not? If not, I'll just stop reading it. I'm having a hard time finding related texts for RAW - I might use Shawshank Redemption (but I think just about everyone is using it), Jessia (by Bryce Courtney) and A Time to Kill (if it's good) but the problem is, that makes either two books, or two movies (Jessica was a mini series event on TV) - Please help!

You'd want to mix sources.

Try a movie like shawshank redemption or american history x and then use a couple of sources like books or articles.

I got handed a heap of sources on those camps that parents send their out of control teenage children to. They'd be good but im not using any of htem.

No. Don't. Do something that's not popular.

wat about One flew over the cuckoos nest??
NO!!

Although there are heaps of info and analyses on both these related texts, DON'T USE THEM!!!!!!

Try something more original and are not as popular among BOSers or people in your class.

Oh and don't tell them what you're getting either.

Prisons as related texts...eww.

yeh this thread is prolly out dated lol....last entry was july

but i am using "dead poets society", "hard times" by charles dickens, "cider house rules" and a picture book by shaun tan called "the lost thing"

and i agree with Pokute-san, its not recommended that u use texts like shawshank or cookoo's nest they r too popular and for u to get a good mark u will need to have a really good essay to make urs stand out to the markers coz after marking a few thousand all about shawshank......they will be looking for sumfin different

If you choose something thats popular, all you do is choose techniques that aren't commonly used, almsot everyones going to talk about the warden/sam and how sam is degarded, but is anyone going to mention shawshank purely to extend the idea of the poor conditions of institutions and how frank daberont makes it all grey as well as the prisoners clothing to loose their individuality ? :D I hope not :D
