Reading wind direction (1 Viewer)

Hey can someone help me i am sorta confused about this. Well not really maybe I just dont remember.

For example what wind direction is this.

o___________/

Is it an east direction or west direction?

The STEM of the barb points to the direction the wind is coming FROM.
In your case, it is coming from the east.
Therefore an easterly wind.
Am i correct?

Thats what I was thinking but the thing that confuses me is, the direction the wind is blowing what is the direction of wind.

Its blowing to the west but is an easterly wind

Yup, the name of the wind refers to direction it comes from.

I just remember that southerlies are cold because they come from the south, and the south is antartica.

ohh skills are lovely.
I'm definately going to be utilising these things throughout my entire life... Such practical knowledge to know!

yea but if they asked in which direction is the wind travelling would i say west?

It would be travelling west but if they ask you what it's called you'd write easterly.
You name a wind as Deer said by which direction it's coming from.
Write both to be sure i guess

I always think of the thing as a flag, or a bag on a pole. If the line is going towards the right (o__________/, or whatever) then the wind is coming from the west and blowing towards the east. I think it would be called a westerly wind.
