Relation: equation relating x and y somehow.

Function: a relation of x and y such that for each x value, there is at most one corresponding y value.

Examples of relations that are not functions:

$x^2+y^2=1, y^2=x+2$

Examples of functions:

$y=x^2-2, y=e^x, y=\sqrt{1-x^2}$
