Don't forget that taxation has a lot to do in terms of affecting labour supply in terms of inducing or detering people from entering the workforce.

Also talk about maternal leave, and the improvement of childcare facilities, these are the key constraints to which women would not enter the workforce.

You might also include the effects of liberalisation upon industries, the outsourcing of jobs.

WorkChoice. Is it good?

John Howards thinks it'll improve the efficiency of the labour market. He believes that it is more fair as workers get paid for what their skill levels are.

Question raises: how much govt. intervention do we need? Do we need it at all? Should we really deregulate the labour market?

But he doesn't realise the inequal power balance between employers and employees. The traditional slave and master relationship.

In the short-run, it may be beneficial, but in the long-run ... a big no no ..

That was a point of view from someone doing govt. But econ, you may argue differently... neway, give you something to think about.

I think your view is based on assumptions that are completely fanciful.

Do you honestly believe in a modern services economy employers view their employees as slaves? Sheesh. Everytime I hear the hammer and sickle come out I instantly want to cringe.

To everyone else - Workchoices is good! ;)
