Thats your main idea for the elective...
Whatever you want, so probably best to find something that makes sense to you, something that you can understand and present creatively in a piece of writing.
Some ideas/examples;
"Memory if life, borne by living societies...It remains in permanent evolution open to the dialect of remembering and forgetting" - Pierre Nora
"History may never capture certain elements of memory; the feel of an experience, the intensity of joy or suffering... yet history also includes elements are not exhausted by memory such as demographic, ecological and economic factors" - Dominick LaCapra
"Memory carries lived experience into the present" - Arno Mayer
and my fave...
"memory is an essentially privelidged and especially powerful way of getting back inside our own past more intimately, of reliving it from within" - Edward S. Casey
any thoughts...?

if u are struggling, i know its late...but Nietzsche's thoughts on history are really intriguing and thought provoking. it may inspire ur own findings of a relationship between history and memory.
