she wasn't incorrect, it wasn't funny, she addressed that it happens sometimes. there's no way to be incorrect in a statement like that unless you're addressing minority/majority behaviour, which you weren't

Generally within most forums, if you lurk around for a bit, its easy to spot who are the popular ones, helpful etc. For example in the Math section which I lurk alot, there are many users, if I need help with something, I can count on their genius to help me out, and I have gathered such information by simply lurking.

The argument that rep helps you understand who the helpful people therefore is a bit weakened because of this.

I still am in favour of rep however, I dont see it as necessary though, its unnecessary to most people, but if there is no harm in bringing in the rep system, then bring it in to satisfy everyone imo.

And the rep system may have some little harm in the excessive negging of people. But that is a decision by admins and mods to decide whether that is a good enough excuse. Generally, if you dont post like excessively, and you dont post without meaning, even idiots wont really neg you. (Obviously there are rare exceptions)

On a serious note though, rep is sort of a credibility thing. It allows the differentiation between legitimate users and those who just troll or make stupid posts.
