how come u are doing english by oten?

well its' like... certain groups of people might like it, and certain groups of people might hate it. And it's different in different contexts.
E.G. with lincoln's speech... (from what i can remember anyway =P)
the majority during his time would have responded well to it; it appealed to national sentiment, it was patriotic, and it wasn't glorifying war but it was remembering the people who died. So it generated a favourable response. But Lincoln, even tho he was president, was a controversial figure; and the Chicago Tribune claimed the speech was nothing but "dishwatery utterances".. it was so short, and apparently insubstantial. (like, the speaker who spoke b4 lincoln went on for two hours, and lincoln only stood for like 5 minutes or soemthing).
Today it is iconic in the US.. enshrined in american values of patriotism, encapsulating the values of nationalism and sacrifice for the sake of the nation. These themes are common to all democratic nations, so responders even outside the US can appreciate is as well for its values, and even for its succinct rhetoric.
