Yeah neither.

i think i'm looking at a D/HD, 2 Crs and a fail/scrape through pass...damn elec eng subjects. Hopefully scaling does kick in, a guy who did a similar subject last year got 12% on the final exam (checked his paper on the review day) that got scaled to 52.

Wow, ur in Russia already? Yeah, it's probably cold there even when it's supposedly summer in the northern hemisphere. I went to somewhere in Russia when it was "summer" but it was still a bit cold. Misty, dreamy.

I've heard nothing first hand from a lecturer/course co-ordinator, only second hand through students who've been to the review days and tutors.

From experience though, in elec2302 (signals) last year, i needed to get 40% in the exam to pass (to PASS mind you). I attempted less than half the questions and was only confident of around 1/3 of it. I was expecting a borderline pass or an epic fail yet i still walked out with a credit. They either scale heaps or the examiners mark them really easy.

If you ever get yash for any of your courses...He's a really good lecturer and teacher and stuff, but his exams are batshit insane. Every question is like the last couple of questions in a 3-4 unit exam paper. He marks really easily though, but i'm sure there's some sort of scaling going on. You can't mark someone easy on a question they've left blank.

i think you can make an FOI request if the exam wasn't confidential.

Hmm, i was reading somewhere on the chemistry website about them having an exam viewing day - it must be part of the laws of the university or something.

===Copied from webCT===

School of Chemistry Procedure
Student Queries and Appeals on Examination Results
Viewing Exam Papers
According to University policy, students have the right to view their examination scripts or any
other written answers to examination questions. Because all examination papers used by the
School of Chemistry are designated as “Confidential”, such viewing must take place under
supervision, and copies may not be taken by students.
Students may only request to view their exams within the formal Appeal Period, set by
the University, which is 4 months from the date on which the final result is released.
SO: For this Semester, the formal Appeal period will end around mid November
To request to view your exam paper:
First, contact the appropriate Chemistry Office to make an appointment. For 1st Year Exams,
contact the 1st Year Office. For 2nd and 3rd Year Exams, contact the Front Office (Full contact
details for both offices are given below). A time will be arranged for you to view your paper.
When you arrive for your appointment, you must present your current student card.
Examination documents WILL NOT be released without a valid student card.
To ensure that students do not write on examination documents, no writing materials are
permitted while viewing takes place.
To request a remark of your exam paper:
If, after viewing your exam paper, you believe that an error has been made in either marking
or marks calculation, you can request that the paper be remarked by completing and
submitting an Examination Remark Request form, within the formal Appeal Period. You can
request that your entire paper be remarked, or specify the remarking of specific sections or
pages. Ordinarily, only the parts of the paper specified by you will be remarked. However, the
School of Chemistry reserves the right to remark the entire paper if it deems appropriate.
Before you submit the form, please note the following:
* A reason must be given for the remark request. The reason must relate to the exam itself,
not to the student’s circumstances. i.e. “I believe that the mark for page 7 has been tallied
incorrectly” is a valid reason for a remark, while “I received a final mark of 48% but I need
to pass this unit” is not a valid reason.
* Remarks will be undertaken without prejudice.
* The student may not be present when the remark takes place.
* Remarks will (wherever possible) be undertaken by the original markers. If the original
marker is not available, the replacement marker will refer to detailed instructions supplied
by the original marker.
* In the event that a different mark is returned, the new mark will stand, regardless of
whether the new mark is higher or lower than the original mark
Applicants will be informed whether their application has been successful, and if a remark
takes place, whether their exam mark changes, and if so, their new final mark for the unit of
study.
