My friend used it and her sister used it and it gave them 20 marks too many. Very disappointing:chainsaw: :chainsaw:

I find it hard to bevlive that it could be 20 marks off, when for most people it accurate to within 0.5 of a point. Are you sure you entered your subjects and HSC marks correctly?

They probably didn't enter HSC marks... I hate it when people criticise an excellently made program because of thier own plain ignorance in using the program incorrectly.

I think it's more of a case of, if you don't like it, don't use it. A lot of people have been impressed with it, so it can't be that off. Plus, I don't think Lazarus would put something on BOS if it didn't work to the best of its ability :)

The problem is that you don't know if it is accurate when you are using it. You don't know until you get your real UAI so you cant not use it cause you don't know if it is working.

I am sure it is not put there to torment but to help. But if it can spit out such incorrect results users should be aware. The school assessment was much more accurate. Luckily that cast doubt on the SAM estimate

Accurate entry of marks? Several methods were used. Results came out the same each time. Maybe instructions for use could be better.

Interesting that responses to an inaccurate result are so spiteful.

We are not dumb we are very computer literate. It is important to know that you can get an inaccurate result because you may depend onthe SAM result when making subject selection for UNI.

If you have a lower UAI you need to choose an appropriate course with a lower UAI cause you don't have a hope if you choose a course with a high UAI

2nd and third round offers demonstrate the UAI required actually get higher not lower. I am not saying a made up nasty comment but the truth.

If you can't tolerate the truth the problem is yours

I would urge you to share the results you are entering, soso, and where they have come from. You should not be entering school assessment marks, for example, nor raw examination marks. SAM accepts aligned HSC marks as input. The aligned HSC mark is the average of the aligned examination mark and the moderated assessment mark.

A difference of 20 (!) UAI points is all but impossible. If you can be certain that your UAI will be 20 points above what SAM is reporting, then you can also be certain that you'll be receiving higher HSC marks from the Board than whatever you put into SAM.

In any case, SAM cannot be improved without users submitting data regarding its flaws.

Sorry Lazarus i did not nake it clear. SAM was nearly 20 marks higher than the actual UAI. The state average was 66 and the UAI's from the BOS were above average but not brilliant more details when they become available

why will you depend on SAM when making selections for uni? your hsc comes out on the thurs, and uai on the friday. then you have a month to decide what subjects to do. by that time you will have your uai. sam will not be needed.

EXACTLY! the exact same thing happened with someone I know:

English (Advanced) 89
Ancient History 92
Music 1 92
Mathematics 94
Maths Extension 1 44/50
Religion 44/50

When i put these values into SAM, the UAI projected at 83.25!!! My friend's true UAI was 96.90 in 2003

I tried jm1234567890 UAI calculator: projected at 96.60 - difference of only -0.30, as compared to -16.65 (SAM)!!!

I just entered those marks and SAM calculated 96.65.

Could you provide us with a screenshot, please?

See, the problem just lies in misentering of information. (At least in this case)

What was the verdict for the initial 20 too many UAI points?

Um most achieved >90, the majority of these ppl being >95, and at least 10-12 I know of that got 99+ (Im sure theres more). How is that not brilliant?

But anyway back on topic, the problem most definitely seems to be people not entering their info correctly and not playing around with it to get it right.

Also, I don't understand why people who don't get the result out of SAM they would like come and take it out on Laz. If you are planning your uni prefs on the sole basis of a UAI predictor on the net you deserve to get a rude shock. People should stop blaming other people for their poor marks (not referencing anyone in particular here, just something Ive noticed), not Laz and his amazingly helpful UAI projector which was made out of nothing but goodwill. Laz doesn't have to sit there for hours programming these things, so show a bit of respect.

Well your marks and UAI are uncertain. One scenario

A student may worry become stressed. Decides on getting an estimate, pays money, Prediction overestimates result, student has enrealistic expectations, result comes out, results worse than prediction, student shattered, hasn't made application to options that closed in september 2003 such as high demand TAFE course or Maquarie Diploma of Languages as SAM suggested no need to, then nowhere to go amd despair sets in

Not an unbelievable consequence
