Can I do both CHEM1031 and CHEM1011.
Could I take a microbiology course in session 1(or even session 2)?
With the SCIF1110 course. In the requirements for medical science for the first year you need SCIF1111 which can be taken in session 2. but it says that SCIF1110 is the equivalent of SCIF1111. Im confused, If i take SCIF1110 will i have to still do SCIF1111. I'm asking this becuase SCIF1110 is a 3UoC course which stuffs things up and also the one hour of the course in the week is a lecture on tuesday from 5-6pm, i would of had a day off if it wasnt there, so im asking should i do SCIF1110 or wait until session 2 and see if i can do SCIF1111??

1. Yes you can do CHEM1011 OR CHEM1031, you can't do both. Both essentially teach you the same stuff, but as 1031 implies, it's advanced and is usually taken by Optometry students or those planning to major in Chemistry or Pharmacology majors.

Keep in mind CHEM1041 requires chem1031 as pre-requsite.

2. Microbiology (I assume you're talking about Fundamentals of Microbiology & Immunology) You can't take this course, until you have passed BIOS1021 (now called BABS1021), BIOS1101, 6 UOC of Chem and 6 UOC of mathematics. Hence this course is a 2nd year course.

3. SCIF is ONLY taken by Med Sci students. If you're a B Sci, you can't take it. Usually in med sci SCIF courses are required.

Yeah SCIF1111 is restricted to MedSc students. SCIF1111 = SCIF1110 + SCIF2220.

I don't think SCIF1110 (3UOC) is offered to new students. It is only available to continuing students. All new MedSc students must enrol in SCIF1111 (6UOC).

So in the first session of Bsci in wanting to trasnfer to medsci should i do SCIF1110. If i dont i will need to fill it with 6UOC to fill all of my 24UOC. I was thinking of maybe Physics, but I need some help here, what could i do with 6UOC, i like bio and chem, and am doing BABS already and higherchem and mathematics.

Also I did 4unit maths in for the hsc, and got the results of 64 in ext 1 and 60 in ext 2. do you think i am up for it for higher maths, or should i stick to normal maths and help to ensure that i make the marks for the transfer to med sci??

Survivor I have also made a thread in the general tertiary section in science, i dont know if you have seen them, but my situation is all unfolded there..

Hmm. I don't know if you can actually enrol in SCIF1110 given that it is limited to BMedSc students. You can try enrolling in it and see if my.unsw lets you.

You can choose 6 UOC of elective, anything from Science. Note that MedSc students have to take MATH1041. If you are planning to transfer, thae you must complete MATH1041.

It would be good to take the normal version of maths (MATH1131) to get better marks for transfer.

Usually Med Sci students in first & second year Year take MATH1031 AND MATH1041. But most complete all Math Units in first year.

I would recommend you calling Science Student Centre or School of Medical Sciences @ Faculty of Medicine to see whether you can enrol in that course.

=p If you are really allowed to enrol in the SCIF-based courses, then B Sci would be a much better degree than Med Sci.

Anyway don't worry too much about transferring...I'm not even sure if UNSW has Med Sci (2nd Year entry), USyd has it on UAC...Don't worry...B Sci = B Med Sci, except if you're really into the Grad Med Scheme.

SCIF1111 replaces both SCIF1110 and 2220.

Med Sc students now do SCIF1111. For students who completed SCIF1110 in S2, 2006, they can do SCIF2220 this year. SCIF1110 is no longer offered. So if you did them backwards (SCIF2220 first) then you lose out on 3UOC unfortunately.
