1. usyd adv science is for maths ... wheras unsw offers adv sci in a variety of majors
2. usyd's adv sci depends on the supply-demand, like any other uai cut-off. but unsw's adv sci is fixed at 90, even if everyone doing it get over 99. the reason is cos unsw recognises that anyone getting over 90 deserves to be doing an adv degree
3. at unsw, u dont need to maintain a cr average

1. Huh? There is an advanced bsc and an advanced bsc in mathematics...
2. How? The HSC isn't a measure of intelligence but more a measure of application. Sure that is needed in all uni degrees, but is needed to the same extent in an advanced course?
3. A mark of 65 isn't that hard to reach.

? Are you sure about the credit average?

Advanced Science is the way to go if you get the UAI and you are interested in heading towards a research career of sorts in that filed.

I'd say that USyd's BSc (adv) is 'better' than UNSW's due to the UAI for the respective degrees. Getting above 97 is nowhere near as easy as getting over 90, and a 'stronger' student core is sure to push you higher levels. But in terms of the subjects that are offered... ?
Yes at USyd and im sure at UNSW adv programs, you are required to maintain a credit average because of the more demanding courses in later yrs and for hons. Doing a normal sci degree wont stop you from doing adv subs nor will it stop you from achieving high grades.

The adv degree is relatively new where as normal sci is well established so employers look at your acedemic transcript and the like. If you do choose to go for adv sci choose it for the majors not for 'adv'.

I just looked it up earlier, and at USyd they require a credit average during the second and third years of the advanced degree.

I should have added this earlier, but with the uai for an advanced bsc you can pretty much be considered for any of the regular bsc/other combinations, so there is no harm in taking the advanced version in the combo rather than the regular.

Edit for above: field rather than filed in my earlier post and the quote.

u can combine adv sci at unsw with engg or comm .... but in both cases, u start of with normal sci infirst yr, being able to combine with adv sci will depend on how well u go in first yr .... there is no "cut-off" mark u need to achieve. but at the end of first yr, u should go meet the program director. if he reckons u can cope up based on ur assessments so far, he will transfer u to adv sci with engg/comm

hey i was wondering could u combine B Sc (comp sci) with B Comm?

cuz it was listed in the CSE prospectus (UNSW) but the HECs code refers to as plain B Sc/B Comm
