In section II of the exam as most would know we have to pick from one of nine questions and write an essay, on practice, conceptual or the frames.
We are all advised to pre-prepare resoses for AOS and modules in English and modify them for the questions... What does anyone think about pre-preparing an essay for section ii of the art exam - waste of time or worth the effort?

it's more "worth the effort" to have a bunch of case studies that fit under one of the areas (prac, conc, frames) rather than a pre-prepared response. by having a range of studies in one group you can more easily slot them in to one of the questions.

We were always told in my class not to pre-prepare answered to section II Coz alot of the time alot of people who do that don't answer the question directly. Its the best idea to learn your case studies, that way you have a better chance of answering the qustion and getting more marks.

it is important that you have studied artists and their work because you will need to be able to give examples or whatever and include them in your response or essay

and it is important to remember and understand the Practice, Conceptual Framework and Frames....

I have 2 preprepared essays which I memorize - and in the exam - I just manipulate it to the questions. I think its good to memorize an essay/case study in depth but also have general knowledge - in case NONE of the questions fit your essay at all.

With my 2 preprepared essays - I've managed to use them for the past exams since yr11 - and gotten high marks - I think it also depends on how versatile your case study/essay is.

I don't know what to do with pre-prepared stuff. Like how can you create a essay that you can adapt to a wide range of questions???

Well, i think.....if you study/understand the three contents - Practice, Conceptual Framework and Frames - you can get a fair idea what the essays or questions are going to involve. and know the artist, artworks, critics and historians that you want to talk about to relevant questions...

and its really helpful to get the Excel Revise HSC Visual Arts in a month book.

its best to know alot of the artist's artworks, but perhaps when you write about an artist in your essay, mention some of the artist artworks. Then write about, in depth, one or two or of the artowrk you mentioned, and relate it back to the question.

lol, even better to write more than two of their artworks in depth. but its hardly possible when your time is running out. at least, you've written about one artwork in depth. :p

That's what my class did. We did a small in class session and we all thought that section was pretty good.

When I studied for section 2 last year what I did was perfect an essay an have the teacher check over it...
Once I had it perfected
I went through the essay and wrote down the major points
and I memorised the major points...
When I got to the exam i chose one of the questions that applied to my essay I had memorised and then I applied my essay to the question... and I didnt do to bad

Yeah, I basically had two pre-prepared essays and just memorised them. it works.. but i also did some extreme bullshit with words and dates and just general ambiguous subjective writing. it's the secret to hsc success.
