I'm editing my essay quite harshly.

Hand that in tomorrow and that's it for this week.

Then 4 assessments in the next 2 weeks.

Hey Neb, whats your criteria for "why the source is academic"? In the annotated bibliography part.

After this, I'm have ANHS and EDUF due next monday.

I've just been going by their appointments (professor, lecturer etc.), where they're employed, how many references they site, where their article appeared (in a journal, in a childrens book etc.) and so on. Having said that, not all my sources are strictly academic. A few I'm using for that rebuttal part appeared as reviews in some magazine.

you have to look/ research the authors past history... whether he/she has written other publications before... whether it is in the biblography of other sources...etc.

I don't think we're expected to know how many times their articles have been cited in other articles...

My essay plan and bibliography is poor, lol. Hopefully my final essay will make up for this poor mark.

not so much how many times but if...

Not so much if, but whether or not it appears in a scholarly context (aka: peer-reviewed journal etc.).

how do we know if its a peer reviewed journal?

i'm not sure. usually you can tell. for instance, if it's the costa rican journal of siberian chemistry then i wouldn't trust it. on the other hand, if it appears in nature then i'd trust it. use your instincts? iuno.

i think i have a really dodgy source, cos i google'd the guy's name and nothing came up. Even though he says he's teaching at some uni in NY.

Oh well! I'm just looking to getting this done. I'll be happy with a credit.

By the way, if I found an article from the uni's database, it is a "scholarly journal article"? In other words, how do I tell if something is a scholarly journal article?
