Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

Hey everyone.

You know what really annoys me? How hard would it be to find a human bunsen burner (that has turned blue)?

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

lol I had a BOS related dream last night. Me, a guy from my SCLG2607 tutorial, amber44 and stazi went to stazi's house, and we worked on an annotated bibliography for Annette...she wanted 500 sources, but we only had to write 30wds on each :<

The end.

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

has anyone else got calls/emails from E&B faculty about exchange?

It doesn't appear that any other faculty is taking such a proactive approach to encouraging students to go on exchange.

Is it because there are not enough people doing Commerce, Economics etc want to go on exchange? Fricken weird.

Women's bull was alright.

I struggled through women's honi, choking on my own rage haha.
"I told him not to look at my porn, but he did because he's a STUPID CHAUVANIST MALE"
"Why don't young women identify with feminists? We don't tell you not to shave your legs"
"SHAVING YOUR LEGS SHOWS YOU ARE OPPRESSED. MAKEUP IS BAD"
"using the word 'mankind' is bad"

They'll say "Every honi is a men's edition". Even though there's always a fairly even split between male and female contributors.

I can't stand them. We've got the vote, we can drive, what else do you want?

Francis: Why are you always on about women, Stan?
Stan: I want to be one.
Reg, Francis: What?
Stan: I want to be a woman. From now on, I want you all to call me "Loretta".
Reg: Wha'?
Loretta: It's my right as a man.
Judith: Well, why do you want to be Loretta, Stan?
Loretta: I want to have babies.
Reg: You want to have babies?!
Loretta: It's every man's right to have babies if he wants them.
Reg: But... you can't have babies.
Loretta: Don't you oppress me!
Reg: I'm not oppressing you, Stan, you haven't got a womb! Where's the fetus gonna gestate? You gonna keep it in a box?
[Stan/Loretta starts to cry.]
Judith: Here! I-I've got an idea. Suppose that you agree that he can't actually have babies, not having a womb — which is nobody's fault, not even the Romans' — but that he can have the right to have babies.
Francis: Good idea, Judith. We shall fight the oppressors for your right to have babies, brother. Sister, sorry.
Reg: Wh-what's the point?
Francis: Wha'?
Reg: What's the point of fighting for his right to have babies when he can't have babies?
Francis: It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression!
Reg: Symbolic of his struggle against reality, more like...

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

there were a couple of decent articles in women's honi, but a lot of it was self-righteous crap and/or astonishingly lacking in self-awareness.

my favourite was the sexual harassment officer saying that a guy telling her that driving his car fast made him cream his pants, apparently without any sexual suggestion or any use of it other than as a desexualised figure of speech. so obviously OMG THAT"S SEXUAL HARASSMENT!!! if they're worried about young women not being interested in the feminist movement, maybe they could look at not focusing on the often hysterical discourse stuff and talking a bit more about domestic violence, pay gaps and that sort of thing (i thought the supra page did that pretty well). issues that have a major and actual impact on women, rather than the trivial stuff they seem to fixate on that's completely inaccessible to women who aren't in arts degrees.

Re: Semester 1 Chatter Thread

Exactly.

Uni feminists do not understand that they're not fighting the same fight as their mothers. They're getting upset about stupid, petty things, so most women ignore them. If they were more moderate they might actually get something done.

the 'cunt' saga that's been playing out in honi for the last few weeks is another good example.
