the bit where she contrasted star wars to the medieval romance aspects made me laugh :) it was also interesting to see how true it was =]

and yeah the mills and boon tape was funny too. Maybe i was just iritated because the two people next to me talked the whole time, and the two people infront of me talked the whole time. Do you guys go to the midday lectures or the 5pm ones?

yeah i gotta agree there...i go out of my way to avoid walking through them or else its all "OMG STOP BUSH, HOWARD IS EVIL OMG PROTEST" and then when you ignore them/say 'no thanks', they act like you've mortally offended them...which makes me feel guilty (yeah i know, get over it, but i don't even feel good about ignoring drunk people harrassing me for money let alone students campaigning for a cause).

most of the other people with flyers/issues/bibles don't bother me. it's just the socialist people really...they're so in your face about it

They scare me. I wish they would leave me alone. They're SO in your face. Why can't they go somewhere else?

I'm beyond feeling guilty.

i think so... i remember getting a shot in 2003 (maybe 2002) for something, and then there was one in 2004 for something else too (but i didnt get it because my mum read the ingredients and said it was bad for me... shes into alternative/natural medicine and refuses to believe that metals are a normal part of our diet.)
Long story short i think it was but i dont know.

They're bloody annoying. They're right, I'm wrong.. I get it.

I wasn't sure who I was going to vote for at the next election, but they've turned me, yes, they have. I am now going to vote Howard.

Can we at least distinguish between groups here? Socialist Alternative always sets up outside of the giant oak tree, whereas AWAG and others (which triangulum was referring to) tend to set up further towards the library entrance. AWAG and most others, every time I've seen them, never really harrass or anything like that. Like cosmic doris said, your beef is with the socialist alternative, not with the guys that set up right outside the library, right?

Don't make the mistake of thinking that federal Labor equals campus Labor, or even that federal Labor vaguely resembles campus Labor.

campus Labor are actually a bunch of pretty funny people. They were killed in the debate with the Socialist Alternative the other day though. It got pretty hectic, hence funny.

I don't see why people don't go to those debates. They're entertaining as hell!

Because they involve voluntarily sitting in a lecture theatre in Carslaw? Just a thought.

What was the debate about?

I don't even think of it as being Labour, more anti-Howard. I had a guy harassing me outside the library the other day saying 'stop Howard, don't vote for that scum-bag Howard'.

I'm sick of those people telling me who to vote for.

I think it was about WorkChoices and whether Labors alternative would be any better.

Thats a pity. Because the people yelling at you outside aren't Labor supporters. They are Socialist Alternative. They hate Howard, but they hate Rudd too. Only reason they aren't yelling "KILL RUDD" is because a) he isn't PM so he doesn't deserve that much attention and b) he's not AS bad as Howard (in their view)

You have to realise, the people outside Fisher are the Socialist Alternative, on the EXTREME of politics.

Feel free to vote Howard if you wish, but I just want you to know that those people you despise aren't really Labor people either. :)

Both sides were yelling at each other in equal volume. ;)

It was just that the Labor Club wasn't really sure of what they were saying. I think their idea was that everyone has to stick together to get John Howard elected. They also kept conceding that, "yes, fighting for fairness [or whatever it is] isn't as good as it could be, but it's the best we've got", and in doing so kinda forfeited the debate. I mean, the subject was "can Rudd deliver on IR", and the Labor Club was admitting that it doesn't appear that he can. Anyway, 'twas entertaining.

Anyone going to this protest thingo next week?

'Forward with fairness', I think. What about it does SA find so objectionable? Do they want a return to centralised industry-wide wage-fixing or something?

Actually what I found amusing about SA last week was their poster about 'Making a killing from global warming' capitalist parasites blah blah. They illustrated it with an evil finger-tapping Mr Burns standing in front of the big power plant chimneys, apparently missing the fact that the Springfield plant is nuclear and hence doesn't emit carbon.
