Re: Semester 2 Chatter Thread

The advanced ppl are included in the same stream as everybody. There are no restrictions in terms of non-adv ppl doing adv subjects

The only UOS outline for sociology that I can give you is for SCLG3601 contemporary sociological theory - which involves writing a 6000wd essay :(

Thanks for that SP! What's the point of having that little disclaimer anyway regarding 'advanced' people?

Also, you can cross list PHIL2644 to a major in sociology. There are no prerequisites for it.

Oh that's right, are you doing it? Dunno, GCST has some cool units but I'm scared it'll all boil down to, 'men are pigs!'....

Re: Semester 2 Chatter Thread

yeah i am doing it. there's hardly anything about men in this subject. it's more about culture and consumerism. although it's tinged anti-consumerist, it still accommodates pro-consumerist standpoints. granted, there's only been one lecture, but it's good thus far. and the assessments are easy (e.g. 60% 5,000 word case study on anything consumer related)

COOL cool, it says you need to have done a GCST subject before, I haven't, can I get special permission and could I maybe use it towards my SCLG major?

Re: Semester 2 Chatter Thread

yep you can get special permission quite easily (lecturer was more than willing to oblige, same as the head of dept.) not sure if you can use it towards a SCLG major - best to consult the handbook
