This is very much the situation I find myself in. Last relationship I went into, I went into too fast, and it ended up a huge mess because of it. So in my case these days, I won't make any move until I have liked the person on a serious level for at least 3 or so months. I have no problem in actually asking a girl out when the time is right, but until that time, I would choose to keep it on a good friends basis. I feel that this gives me enough time to make sure the decision is more than emotional plus it's more fair on both people in the relationship - knowing your both taking it seriously and it's not just a whim
