i recently acquired a copy of sims 2 for PC, and am unable to install it.
i am running Windows XP SP1. the reason it gives me is that i am only running DirectX 9.0b, and need DirectX 9.0c. it gives me the option to install it from the CD, however I am told that it cannot proceed.
Unfortunately, i cannot download DirectX 9.0c directly from Windows as my version of XP is not what many would consider legitimate...
i have tried downloading and installing the file from a few other websites, however when I click install, i am greeted with the message of: A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted.
I tried uninstalling my current DirectX and then going straight for 9.0c, but to no avail.. I need your ideas guys... help me please!!

yeah but SP2 seems like a whole lot of trouble for nothing. it seems to interfere with all of my other running programs - themexp, not to mention my firewalls and antivirus programs.. im aware that it has a firewall in itself, and i thank you for the suggestion, but is there any way that one could harness directX 9.0c and send it to me at all?? longshot i know...

Google up DX9.0c. I actually installed it before Microsoft released it in SS2 from a third-party site which isolated it.

You get SP2 via Windows Update. Yes, you are supposed to have a legal installation of Windows for the Service Packs, but you can get past that by downloading a Windows CD-key changer prior to attempting a SP update. Only my opinion.. but you really should purchase your software, otherwise it is no better than theft and hence you can't blame Microsoft for implementing such anti-piracy mechanisms in areas like their Service Packs.

haha yeah i didnt and never will blame microsoft for their anti-piracy measures... im a thief, i know - but if you can get it cheaper (or in my case free) and it works half decent, why not?
then again, i was born and raised in bankstown... very different lifestyle to that of the northern beaches.

head down to your local library and borrow some recent pc mags, eg. pc world or apc. they should have cds in them that have DX9.0c.
