Hi ,
I am applying for Bach of Social Work at a few of the Sydney area Uni's for next year. I am overseas , PR holder. The feedback I am getting from the Uni's is encouraging so far -as my quals are non Australian.UWS and UNSW(once UAI doesnt rise) have been especially helpfull
Am amazed at how much easier it is to get information and entry in NSW compared to UK/Ireland.
Is there anyone on here studying or thinking of studying Social Work?
TIA
J

my sister did a masters degree in social change and development and university of woollongong, you might want to look there as well http://www.uow.edu.au/

being a PR i think you will still have to pay full fee, no HECS.

actually, holders of PR visas are entitled to pay HECS-HELP fees, albeit upfront.

Thanks for replies.
For PR's you can get a commonwealth supported place. However since Jan 2005 (doh!) you cannot defer the student contribution and you receive no discount for up front payment. However if you do successfully gain a HECS place your payments would be circa$6k a year as aposed to a possible $18K a year. Then obviously you do your time till you qualify for citizenship , take that out and then you can defer , get discount etc.

NSW needs more everything in regards to our Health and Welfare system. Whats PR?
PR is permanent residency. It is a visa type - the best and hardest type to get. Totally different to a student visa. You have full work rights but a few changes to the rules in Jan 2005 means that PR's have to pay their student contributions upfront with no discount. Apart from that you have more or less the same rights as a citizen for work and study.
After 2 years as a PR you can apply for citizenship which I will do.
