Everybody in sociology procrastinates, do not be alarmed. Try not to get hung up on the feeling that you aren't ready to begin. Starting early and giving yourself some time to edit and improve your first attempt is the best way to go.
I would highly recommened creating an essay plan. It makes the actual job of writing the essay much easier, and it ensures that you end up answering the question with a coherent argument.

I'm comparing two theories of power (Marx & Foucault), have been trying to work out an essay plan for days. Am about to start writing I think. I even gave away my internet cable so I couldn't go online to procrastinate (I ended up looking at the effects of the atomic bombs in Japan after WW2 at one stage...) but have just talked the question through and think I have some sort of argument now.
