I'm doing software engineering at the moment, first year, just finished my first 6 weeks and i'm pretty sick of the course, the maths and the computer work, i just feel that i wont be able to handle this much computer work. I mean i'm sick of it after 6 weeks, i dont think i'd be able to do 4 years worth.

Business seems to look more appealing the more i do my course.

Is this a common feeling and should i shrug it off and continue with the my course or what ?

I hate maths with a passion, but dont worry a friend doing business at UWS told me its boring (easy, but boring).

were all someones slaves as workers, the trick is to find something you like to do, hence getting around the slavery bit, but then you have those saying that as soon as you start 'doing' the job of your dreams for money, you are bound to hate that too.

if i was you id wait when u have to do that gen-ed thing and take something business related to see if u truly like it before making any great changes.

Maybe "Information Systems" is the course for you. As sunny said, most feel fed up with maths, but if programming is getting you down as well then maybe you are in the wrong course ...

Are you two (cyrax83 & enak) doing 1311 or 1411, 1011 or 1711?

EDIT: enak, your chosing Higher for both MATH and COMP! Why not consider dropping to lower before quitting the course ....

I am absolutely fed up with maths too...I've now started skipping most maths lectures simply because I find I try harder to stay awake than to pay attention...Maths has always been my weakness for ages...

But I don't know what else I can transfer to, with a UAI of 85 I don't really think I have much chance into getting into a course that are in the 90's cutoff. Especially If I can't do well in the first year because of maths :(

If you are sure that it is computing / programming you want, then it would be worth it hanging in there. Maths is very common in first year computing, but later on down the track there is alot less maths.

He did with maths, but I think its a bit too late with comp.. (i need more people to sit next to me, so im telling him not to ;))

I hate maths too here, especially when my calculus lecturer been describing equations as "ugly" "pretty" "nasty". Oh, and I haven't seen my algebra lecturer since the first week :D

btw for software engineering, you only need mathematics 1a right?

You have finite maths as well...but if you mean you need 1b, yeh you don't need it.

Ye like UTS said, i've already dropped higher maths, and since this train thing, i havent even started yet, im heavily considering dropping higher computing

i think mostly its the discret math that stuffs up ?

u can transfer to bioinformatics or biomed or somethin where the harder math is replaced by science subjects. thats if u like science i mean.

Why is math's even a pre-requisite for computing?

Are we going to be using complex numbers/limits and weird crazy formula's i've never seen before in our computing?

supposedly, discrete maths (and we've been seeing too much sets in higher comp I think).

my lecturer is peter blenexhasset. now you're suggesting that all lecturers speak in cryptic manner? (*gasps*)

btw enak, if all else fails, hand in a random decision function (who knows, theres always a chance you'll still get high marks out of it :))

lol what's with the 30sec delay in your avartar!

computers is pretty easy...not a lot of work involved if your doing comp1011..1711 is a different story

the hardest part is just all the maths involved!
but i'm doing actuarial with comp sci soooo i was expecting the maths :)
