heyy i need help
how i do test the soulubility of an ionic compound such as Salt (NaCl)????

plus can u plz give me an example of a houshold substances which is

covalent molecular:
covalent network:
macromolecule (polymer):

u can place the NaCl in pure water. then if it conducts it means the ions have dissolved and are alowing the current flow.
But if u want to know the degree of ionisation it gets a bit trickier then that

Covalent Molecular: Cloudy Ammonia (cleaning)[NH4]
Covalent Network: Sand (say u have a sand pit lol)[SiO2], Diamond (jewelry)[C]
Macromolecule: plasitc containers, Kitchen utensils, plasic bags [polyethene]

heyy thkns for the reply i actually forgot to include something.... ia m suppose to test the solubility of a substance in water... how am i suppose test the solubility of plastic , it doesn;t dissolve in water

everything is soluable in water to a certain extent. Soluability is expressed as g/L, as in how many grams of [stuff] can be dissolved in 1 liter of water at 25C 1 atm.

And the test... well, just add the stuff and see if it dissolves?

hey then wat do i do about cloudy ammonia --> thats a liquid what would it be classified as souluble, partially soluble, or insoluble

pure ammonia is miscible with water (i'm sure ammonia has a low m.p.) cloudy ammonia is really a thing in the past.

but in general, if you see cloudiness, you know the solid has not dissolved (yet)

Yeah it is and it is called "sucrose" it is C12-H22-O11

ok thanks but i have 1 last question is sand (SiO2) soluble in water??? i have to classsify it as soluble,Partially soluble, or insoluble but when i add 10g sand to 1 litre of water i am unable to see if the sand dissolved...

Soluble - more than 10g will dissolve in 1 litre
Partially soluble- 1-10g will dissolve in 1 litre
Insoluble- less than 10g will dissolve in 1 litre

Insoluble- none will dissovle

What u do is put 10g of Sand and stir then leave it over night and u will c that all the sand just sets to the bottom.

The reason for this is that sand (silicondioxide) is covalent network with strong covalent bonds which cannot be broken by the water
