do we need to remember the solubility table for the exam? ie do we need to remember that all nitrates and soluble, etc.? will questions ask us to say whether something is soluble in another thing?

I'm from melb, but i am guessing that you do need to...

Beacuse if you need to put in the states of the prducts and the reactants in your equations, then you need to know the table...

check the syllabus. there will be a relevant dot point
however like ms b said, it's probably a good idea to know what precipitates and what doesn't - assumed general knowledge

the syllabus dotpoint i think relates to this is:
- deduce the ions present in a sample from the results of tests

so they could give us a table of results of reactions between one unknown and 3 known solutions, and ask wat the ion is, rite? then they could ask us to use that answer to say whether that ion would precipitate with a 4th solution
