that links the distance and time for me:)

i would have still liked another example tho :(
LOL, come on Rahul, I thought that you would have been able to undertand the book straight off...
Im dissapointed! :p

for time dilation u could use the example of the atomic clocks one wich was put into orbit and one on earth then they checked diffeence in time

i have a pure hatred for the book and believe that it should be burned.

hmm..muon is a popular one..and its very straight forward to be honest..

i asked my teacher about the atomic clock one, but he said its very hard to cover it right..so he didn't really explain it...

so can u tell me it rahul..plz

*looks hopeful*
from my understanding, what they do is that they have 2 atomic clocks. one stays on earth and one goes on a space shuttle, which travels very fast. according to STOR, their should be differences in times, which is actually seen.
i dont think you need to know how they work, just that they are extremely accurate, so any sort of change can be picked up.

another piece of evidence? think about it this way....we have an atomic clock flown in opposite diirections of the earth...and they show a discrepancy in times afterwards...thus experimental evidence of time dilation.

Also, the metre according to the Systeme Internationale (SI) definition is the distance a beam of light will travel in a vacuum in 1/299...(forgot the rest sorry) of a system- so in fact distance is dependant on time...if we change time then the length automatically changes by an equivalent factor....so the atomic clock experiment ALSO provides irrefutable experimental evidence for length contraction~

hope this helps.......

yes it does inasero:)

so basically, we have to compare the time dilation and length contration using s=d/t.

hmm....oh well. i thought that there might have been an independent example.

thanks for the replies everyone.
