go see this film pronto, i highly recommend it. :uhhuh: i came into the cinema not expecting much. the ads didn't seem to grab me nor did the title.... but I was pleasantly surprised by how sharp, clever and funny it was. fine performances from everyone, even the child actors. the alcoholic grandmother was hysterical!!

the alcoholic grandmother was pretty much the only good thing about it. i don't know, it seemed to go off on all these tangents and not really tie up anything at the end. tea leoni pissed me off the whole movie, and adam sandler just doesn't work in unfunny roles. at all.

It was a different Adam Sandler movie. It was ok...it states that it is a "comedy", but like someone else mentioned, the alcoholic grandomother is the funniest thing in the movie.

i thought Adam Sandler nailed the role. it's his attempt at trying something new and more dramatic. he proves his versatility as an actor and you can't expect him to play stupid funny characters for the rest of his life. you can really notice he is starting to age in this film. Tea Leoni is a brave woman on taking such a unsympathetic and difficult character. she's a good actress in a terrible role.

i liked how the movie didn't resolve all issues and have a typical fairytale ending. it makes it more realistic and non-cliched. like in life, loose ends are not always tied up satisfactorily.

it is a mixture of comedy and drama... a 'dramedy'

going off the trailer, it looks like an unoriginal, unfunny piece of shit. (btw, i'm sure there is a really old B&W movie which has a very similar plot...) Funny men in serious roles just about NEVER work for a reason.

Recent examples to prove that statement wrong: Bill Murray, Jim Carrey

I'm sure there are plenty of others who are great at both

long story short.... it's about a Mexican woman and her 12 old daughter who move in with an affluent American family. subsequently chaos ensues, cultures and personalities collide. like many other people, i had such low expectations too but i came out of the cinema pleasantly surprised. of course people will have their different opinions, but if you liked As Good As It Gets, then you'll like this.

you can go to http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/spanglish/ to watch the first 10 minutes.

Some are great at both...Adam Sandler acted quite well in Spanglish. However, it's just odd seeing him in a much more serious role as opposed to him in Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Bulletproof, Mr. Deeds, etc. Throughout the movie, I was waiting for him to say/do something funny. :)

I guess I'm just used to seeing him play an immature/funny character. ;)

This isn't his first attempt at trying something new and more dramatic take for instance Punch-Drunk Love. That being said, you'd think he actually would "nail the role", alas...he didn't. Because Adam Sandler is a one act guy, he will never be able to not be funny, just like Ben Stiller and Mike Meyers. Also, Jim Carrey sucked in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

There are so few actors who can do comedy and drama well. Robert De Niro can do both, Woody Allen can do both. Will Smith can do both. Adam Sandler, cannot.

Spanglish was okay...well pretty shit actually. As everyone has said, the alcoholic grandmother is good value but the movie is annoying at times, i.e. the scene of tea leoni doing that yoga pose for no particular reason, the shithouse ending, etc.

i didn't rate it
