Speech pathology? (1 Viewer)

Since I can't view the old posts, just wanted to hear about speech pathology at USYD. I'm in year 12 right now and considering it. Is it a worthwhile course? What I'm most interested in is hearing about Cumberland. How is it? It feels shunted because of the Camperdown campus, so I'd like to hear people's opinions of it. How are the facilities and atmosphere? Is it good that the campus is seemingly entirely devoted to health science? Oh and do you ever go to the main campus for some lectures, events etc?

I don't do speech pathology but I have a friend who does it at Cumberland campus.
From what i've heard, it's a pretty full on course and you will have a formidable work load. It's definately not an easy course, which is why I suspect that there is a professional shortage in this area.

I can't comment on anything else beyond that because that's all I know. Sorry

Oh! and p.s. it would be advisable for you to brush up on some chemistry. For some reason it will be important

Cumberland is alright. The good thing is you can drive to uni and parking isnt that expensive ($4 or $3 a day). There isnt much clubs or societies (except for religious groups) compared to camperdown but you're not really missing out on much, unless you love to party & socialise all the time. But they do have some faculty balls and pubcrawls a few times during the year. The atmosphere is pretty good. Well i liked it. Much smaller compared to main campus but saves u a lot of time walking from class to class and if it happens to rain, u wont need to use an umbrella cos the whole campus is pretty much sheltered. This was the best thing about cumberland. If you're concerned about the campus environment you should go there and have a look around. Btw, it is opposite rookwood cemetery (in case you didnt know already).

For speech path, i dont think (pretty sure) you dont ever go to main campus for anything. Other than for your graduation at the end of your degree.

Sounds pretty good. If I do end up setting my mind on speech pathology, I'll definitely check out the campus myself and ask around a lot. Thanks guys!

Hey, LOL I'm replying this 8 months later. Hopefully you read this >.<

But anyway I'm in third year speech path right now.

Basically, you won't go through uni without crying LOLOLOL!! Although you have less academic subjects as each year goes by, the work load is still heaps. Also, no you dont go to the main campus (except for graduation lol).

- If you want to help children and/or adults who have swallowing, voice, speech and language difficulties. This may include people who have had a stroke, or children who stutter.
- If you like sciencey stuff (neuro, muscles..) OR can cope with these subjects
- If you like writing essays/englishy assignments OR can cope with this stuff
- Cope with stress (LOL I'm ALWAYS stressed, but I have friends who arn't so I'm just a noob.... >.<!)
- Cope with >9000 assignments/exams
- Can work with other people (there's a lot of GROUP assignments)
