I am not really sure how they determine it.

I am aware of the fact that HSC RAW mark is the one that determines the rank but what if people get the same mark?

According to the Boardofstudies, they look at your HSC mark and the internal mark but it also said that in case of an extension course, extension mark is also considered.

So, my question is: how would they determine the state ranks in maths if 3 people got the same mark? (e.g. 120, 120 and 120)

Would they look at extension course mark instead of the maths internal mark?

I don't know if its true but I've heard that they look at your working out to see which ones set out the most logical/neatest etc........... as many people get raw 84/84 in maths ext 1 each year.

Really? I have never heard of that method of choosing people.

they look at which school you go to and rank you accordingly to its performance

ie ruse kid gets 1st, north sydney girl gets 2nd, etc etc.

there are a lot of ties in the ranking published.. check it out on the BOS site

I reckon they all get 1st.

BUT who knows? BOS might take some bribes into account by the look of the ranking system.

well i know for english and modern and stuff they get all the top marks together and get a few opinions on which one's better. for maths.... beats me
