Hello,

Well I looked at that thread about "can I get decent marks with these subjects"

And I read through it and thought wow that means with my subjects I can do good in.

But then I still keep getting that talk that my subjects are low scaling and I should pick up an extension.

The thing is, what if at the end I don't get an extension? I mean, is it not better anyway that I focus on my subjects I will have then?

Can I actually get a low atar with Eng Adv, SOR 2, legal, modern history, and society?

What if i do exceptionally well in them? Can I get a chance to achieve over 80? I really am aiming high this time, even 90+ .

If it is any consolation, my sister did the HSC in 2009 and she did, Adv Eng, SOR 2, legal studies, Ancient History, Modern History. She got an ATAR of 99.50.. so I think scaling doesn't really have much to do, as long as you do well in your subjects!

Subject scaling really only becomes a factor if your aiming for 99+. Your subject combination is quite good. I did similar scaling subjects and I got over 90 (so did my mate and he got 99). This link from UAC may also alleviate your fears, as it shows the highest ATAR amongst people who did each HSC subject http://www.uac.edu.au/documents/atar/2010_HSC_Table A1.pdf

You can achieve a high ATAR with any combination. Because of the way scaling works, it's easier to get a high ATAR with harder subjects (assuming you do well). With the combination you've picked, you could definitely get 90+.

Oh wow Joy, your sister did very well!

Thankyou enoilgam and absloute zero, I feel more calm at the moment.

So if i do not pick up history extension because i want to focus on those subjects rather than worry about extension work would that be of benefit?

Because I mean, why put myself into more pressure I guess.

I dropped extension maths because I wanted to focus more on my other subjects. I reakon it was one of the best decisions I made.
