Studentmail. (1 Viewer)

For some reason I haven't been able to compose a new message in Studentmail for the last few weeks. Is anyone else having this problem?

ive never been able to do it from home, but from uni is fine...apparently some settings are wrong with my computer, but ive tried everything the ithelp peoples told me to do, and it hasnt worked...

Maybe it has never worked for me either, it is just that I have been trying to do it for the last few weeks. It works fine at the University for me too. What settings do you have to have?

this is the email reply they sent me:

Hi Jess,

There is a strong chance that there are some incorrect settings on your computer. One of the following steps may fix the problem:

1. Check the settings and clean out the tempory internet files (cache) in
Internet Explorer, as follows: Click > Tools; Click > Internet Options;
Check > General (tab) is selected; in the Temporary Internet files section
... Click > Settings ... on the next popup, make sure "Automatically" is
selected; Click > OK; Click > Delete Files (button)

2. Make sure that cookies are turned on, see instructions at
http://studinfo3.newcastle.edu.au/cookie.cfm

3. Reset the Default settings in Internet Explorer set: Click > Tools;
Select > Internet Options; Select > Advanced (tab); Click > Restore
Defaults

4. Reinstall Internet Explorer. It can be downloaded from the following web
site
http://www.newcastle.edu.au/services/desktop-support/windows/downloads/browsers-win/browsers.html
or obtained from a CD attached to the various PC magazines in your local
newsagent. If you do undertake this step you will need to reinstall your
proxy settings in Internet Explorer, see instructions at:
http://www.newcastle.edu.au/services/library/help/database/proxysetup.html

Thanks hipsta_jess. I tried all of the options except for 4, because I don't want to reinstall Internet Explorer and it doesn't work for me either. Thanks for your help anyway.

It sounds like you are either having Javascript or firewall problems. Try using Netscape or Opera(or any other free internet browser).

I thought it might have been my Firewall too, so I turned my Firewall off and tried to use it, but it still didn't work. So you think install another browser? What browser are you using (same question for Cyph and "um..")?

Just IE 5, as it comes with a fresh install of win 2k.

That is weird. I think I will just stick to using Hotmail to sent e-mails to teachers when necessary.

dont see why you cant. if you have enrolled and have your student number

user = cXXXXXXX where XXX... is student number
pass = ab120101 where ab12 is your access key, and 0101 is your birthday dd/mm

Hmm, for some reason this started working for me at one stage. I think it had something to do with Norton Internet Security. I have since changed to Trend Micro Internet Security.

firefox has no problems I'm going back to you have a program which blocks pop ups eg. google toolbar or Ie 6 with sp2.

most internet security programs try and block popups and cookies, my safest bet is to turn all that stuff off all you need is a virus scaner, and some common sense.

mrbassman- i have all those things, and I can access my inbox so I guess thats something- but this compose thing seems to baffel my computer..

this is ie's popup blocker. hold control when you click it, it is an override. to use this you must first goto

Tools>internet options>privacy>popup blocker settings>filter: high level

Compose works for me.

You don't have to be on HIGH filtering for ctrl to allow pop-ups. The best thing to do with the student mail site, is just to allow it to the pop-up safe sites. So that it will let the compose window appear, without having to hold cntrl.

yeah that used to work for me, now i have to use the override
