I was looking to play for UNSW lower grades next season as well. Might see you there..mate.Don't currently play but next season am looking at playing for unsw in the lower grades (fifths or something like that) over the long summer break. Do you play or are u looking to play for usyd next year?
At the moment I play 3rds at Blacktown at the moment. UNSW is a good club, though. Their lower grades play at David Phillips, which is an absurdly small ground that runs so quickly. I played there once and it was just insane how flat the deck was. Not a bad home ground to have if you're a batsman, not so much for a pace bowler.Don't currently play but next season am looking at playing for unsw in the lower grades (fifths or something like that) over the long summer break. Well, i'm more of an All-rounder. Used to play for Ingleburn RSL as a junior..those were the days Though I love giving any wide delivery a good old tonk!At the moment I play 3rds at Blacktown at the moment. How bout you Scorch? Whats your favourite position in the Batting/Bowling Order?
You could try blacktown, depending on where you live. We're really an up and coming club but the facilities are extremely good (we get to use the new Olympic ovals sometimes and our 1st grade ground is currently rated highest). Would be worth a shot.I'm only getting back into the game. Playing in the shires tournaments for 1st grade. I'm a left-arm seamer looking for a grade team to play for next season.
As in you played Greenies last year?used to play grade for north sydney (won green shield last year)
yeah i played greenies and fourth grade last yearAs in you played Greenies last year?
I played Greenies for Sydney Uni last year. We played you guys in a trial game. Jayawickreme hit about a thousand runs and then retired himself. Did you play that game?yeah i played greenies and fourth grade last year
yeah i opened the bowling, got a couple of wickets, then i batted 13 and hit a six over the fence in the last overI played Greenies for Sydney Uni last year. We played you guys in a trial game. Jayawickreme hit about a thousand runs and then retired himself. Did you play that game?

Been doing a fair bit of both for most of this year either opening the bowling or first change and batting about 7, how is it for competition interms of getting into the lower grade teams at unsw?At the moment I play 3rds at Blacktown at the moment. norths are a shit club, and treat juniors like shit so i left and wanna concentrate on study for a year then ill really concentrate on my cricket after i finish school, so shires is a good fit for the time being, not much training and still very decent standard in first gradeI opened the bowling for us and I hit about 30, I think.
Why not play grade, though?
depends on how good you are, really. I mean batsmen in 5s and 4s aren't great, they just tend to be smarter cricketers, and bowlers don't get particularly quick until you get to 3s and 2s really.Been doing a fair bit of both for most of this year either opening the bowling or first change and batting about 7, how is it for competition interms of getting into the lower grade teams at unsw?
Thats good to hear. Hopefully I can break into the 4th grade, if not, then the 5th gradedepends on how good you are, really. I mean batsmen in 5s and 4s aren't great, they just tend to be smarter cricketers, and bowlers don't get particularly quick until you get to 3s and 2s really.
But UNSW are always pretty full because they have two teams in the Metro Cup competition, which is separate from grade, but most teams use it as an unofficial 6th grade.
It really depends on what club you go to, to be honest. There are some clubs that really are just so strong that their 4s and 5s have some quality young cricketers. But 4s and 5s are definitely not park cricket. Far from it mate. Bowlers tend to be smarter and more clever, whereas batsmen will put away bad balls with a hell of a lot more ease in 4s than in 6s.metro cup/6th grade is just full of 16-17yo's that arnt good enough for grade
umm grades 4-5 are pretty much park cricket.
2nds and 3rds are a good standard of cricket. Especially in Sydney. Blokes come over all the time that play 1st XI back in England and can't break out of 3rd grade. I played a year of grade at Sydney University and there was a batsman there from Scotland who had played some first class games and several bona fide ODIs for Scotland, yet still couldn't make 1st grade, and spent the season in 2nds. It's a really strong standard.grades 2-3 are fairly similar. come across some good young players with talent. Are still inconsistent and don't have the mental capacity to play 1st class cricket for an extended period of time.
nice, I like the sound of the higher grades. Though I'm not sure what to do...I'm decent at Cricket but I've been offered a youth contract with an English Championship club (Soccer).2nds and 3rds are a good standard of cricket.
