With regard to UAI comparisons between UTS and MQ another consideration is the number of places (supply and demand ). If I remember right, USYD, UNSW and MQ all have 500-600 places, while UTS numbers may even be less than 300. Considering demand doesn't really reflect this its understandable that UTS entry requirements are so high.

On a barely related matter though, would doing com/law be detrimental to someone later seeking to specialise in crim law?

short answer is absolutely not.

Com/law would not stop you doing crim...however if you want to be the typical criminal law barrister it would not add to your ability in criminal law. It could be like doing an arts degree in Philosophy and sociology and moving into the area of commercial law or taxation law.

no not really. it will not detract, nor will it add to a criminal law career. remember that barristers are self-employed, so i dun see the issue of employability.

There are between 300 and 400 people doing first year law this year at macq

If you want to be a hi-po solicitor, avoid macq like the plague

Lucky for me I don't think that's what I want to do (and heaven help me if I realise it is)

Sometimes you've just got to do the best you can with the marks you're given. Not everyone's going to get 99.

I have the GPA to transfer to UTS bus/law now, but I figure, what's the point? I can't be fucked. Macq is heaps close to home and I enjoy the social aspect of it a lot too. For people like me, it's a law degree that you can really treat like any other degree. I can go out a lot, etc. For those who transfer into it I am guessing it's as hard for them as a Syd/UNSW degree would be for someone like squithy (who said you can't really have a job and stuff)

I haven't read anything on it. We've had some (alright major) issues with Admin law this year...but the division on the whole is strong.

Some of the subjects have been overhauled. No more year long units. And the addition of a new 1st year law unit (LAW104 Law, Lawyers and Society) and jurisprudence being worth 3 NOT 4.
