Hi everyone,

My big, final, huge, scary, etc project is due this friday and I have but two questions...

The word limit is 2500 right? What if I have a rather large quote, thats a snipit of a Constitution (its about 4 lines long) am i allowed to include it but dissmiss it when looking at the word count?

Hope I haven't confused you guys...appreciate any advice:)

Thanks

yes the word limit is 2500. if the quote is in your essay it will definitely count as part of your word count. Unless you do what Bob the Tomato said and simply refer to it in your footnotes. However if you specifically need the wording of the quote included, it will have to be part of the essay and thus included in the word count. good luck

i think you may be mistaken, kaza...

this is quoted directly from the syllabus:

The Essay
The essay should contain:
synopsis
this will be a brief description (300 words) on the development of the precise
question that provides the focus of the essay; the ways the essay addresses
the precise question; the content used in the essay and why it was included.
essay
the essay is an argument in response to a precise question with evidence in
support, the sources of which are acknowledged. It will be in written form and
may be accompanied by appropriate graphic texts only as appendices (apart
from short explanatory captions). The essay must not exceed 2,500 words.
The essay should contain material from a range of perspectives, including the
students own views. A consistent system of referencing should be used to
acknowledge the use of sources.

Year 12, at the start of the year did you receive written notification that you could use as many words as needed? if not, i would strongly advise you go speak to your teacher about it asap
Yeah I spoke to her she said she didn't mind. Its handed in anyway so its too late.

My teacher said its Okay to be a few hundred words over the 2500. Anyway, have you seen the past HTA Essay prize winners or people in that book, many are over the 2500 limit substantially.

Another teacher at my school told me it could be 10%+ or - but I think someone mentioned that. why aren't quotes counted?
