I'm not sure what techniques are used in novels?

So far I have -
- Characterisation
- Dialogue
- Syntax

pretty much anything you can find in novels? which one are you looking at (that might help people be mroe specific!)
oh, with syntax - whilst this IS a valid technique, people tend to talk about this technique more in short storys then novels - novels generally dont do a lot with this technique.
meh, other general techniques:
-all figurative language
-repetition of ideas, phrases etc.
-extended metaphors
-motifs
-authorial interruption etc.
