chances are they do not soley make the decision of whether you should be hired or not, even if it is you will most likely to see them during work

Maybe if you had to maintain a good relationship with them... (Like, if they were someone above you, but not familiar to you... like a boss's boss or something) but it's not expected, so it'd not be looked down on if you don't.
I think the suck-ass-ish (-santaslayer) nature of it would kinda come across as a little ingenuine, too... in my opinion..
