how did you answer this one, where it asked to say wat would happen to the two plants over millions of years.

I think it wanted something along the lines of divergent evolution, due to different environments, at least that's what I put.

i said that the smaller group in the gibraltar ranges had become isolated from the main population. therefore, the difference in environments would lead to different physical, behavoural etc. characteristics. so the two populations would end up appearing as if they were not closely related when in fact they were. in other words, an example of divergent evolution.

kakak i had it the other way... saying that if the environmental pressures of the gibraltar ranges and sydney were similar than this will result in convergent evoltuion ..
i totallyyy forgot that the plants species were similiar ........ crap

same..i wrote divergent evolution as well

do you think they wanted specific examples of how it would change though?

I don't think so, you couldn't really say a specific one, so I didn't mention any. I think it mainly wanted you to outline how divergent evolution happens - e.g. the climate will be different, slight different characteristics would become better suited in the different colonies, leading to eventually two very different species.

How do plants behave? Is that like opening and closing stomates?

ahh good..i did the same..i thought i could have written examples but i wasn't really sure..so..yeh..i just mentioned generally that they'd change due to different environment etc. etc.

I wrote that over years mutations may occur in one of the populations resulting in its evolution and also what most people wrote about different environments and adaptations.

did anyone focus on the 5 millions years thing? cos i mentioned global warming and the more southern location of sydney being a cooler environment thus allowing for more ease in adaptation to the changing environment.... i also mentioned divergent evolution...

Woops missed that bit.

Did you just have to mention about natural selection and how the environment up north has more favourable charachteristics, highlighted the theory of 'Wallaces line'?

And just mention biogeography and when evolutionary change occurs, the species up north will become more abundant --> punctuated equilibrium?

i also specified that since the top plant was closer to the equator, it would have high temperatures hence its leaves would be thinner etc. etc.

mygot, i dont think that "wallace's line" is necessary

Crap, do u think 'will evolve diversively' is the same as saying divergent evolution? it better be lol i forgot the total word for it but had the gist of it in my head

I do believe it asked you to relate it to Darwin/Wallace's theory of evolution.

Wallace's theory of evolution = Wallace's line = Biogeography.

I think it was referring more to adaptive radiation and divergent evolution.
