The Official Cricket Thread

Does anyone agree with me? Australia has a shit overall batting team.... If it weren't for that double ton by the partnership, then australia would of lost badly.

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

Well, I see it as a lack of stability/consistency from the batting top-order. I think the potential is there, especially when it comes to Clarke, but it seems recently Australia has been better off capitalising when the 5th man comes in.
True true, but most players don't even get 20 runs ..... Let alone 30 or 40. I've noticed that in most games, one or two players excel.

They've been shit for a while, Hussey left a major hole. It doesn't seem to matter though they keep having these late order miracle partnerships.

Yeah, I can see what you are saying. A team definitely looks more competent when they are not relying on one or two players.

I agree with this, Hussey definitely left a huge hole.
Maybe the Ashton brothers can one day fill that gap.

with modern cricket you don't see everyone consistently do well though, it's always a couple of great performances and the rest just try knock on some more runs. It is without a doubt though that we are a bowling team and not a batting team. We depend on amazing bowlers! The batsmen just need to give them room to bowl aggressively and not just to defend runs.

March 21 - Pakistan vs India :D
Thats a good one. 1/6 of the world will be watching that one, lol. Pakistan an absolute lethal team when it comes to T20. Never exited a T20 world cup without reaching a semi final. Can't wait for that encounter.

Hopefully Australia can set more of a competitive performance in its T20 matches as well.

Australia's bowling this summer has been very aggressive because that's the key point upon Australia's strength in bowling.

Straya are very overly reliant on Johnson imo, if a batsman finds a way to combat his pace and bounce their bowling attack would be less horrifying. Saffers still have AB at the crease and their tail can definitely bat too (probably get cleaned up by Johnson tho haha). Australia looking good for a win here unless South Africa bat miraculously like Faf did llast time the 2 played

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

The next challenge for Johnson is to succeed in the slow and low pitches in the sub-continent like the other great fast bowlers australia has had. His slower ball to get rid of de villiers though was promising, good to see he's multi-dimensional

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

Australia have drastically improved their bowling, but not up to the level of those days with mcGrath, Lee etc. Johnson's back in form which is good to see. And they're definitely struggling with their top order (not to mention, England are too).

But let's not overlook the Proteas, they've got some serious dangers in their team: just look at JP, Steyn, DeVilliers, Amla...I'm sure they'll charge back. They'll make it a tight series.

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

Australia's getting seriously needs to improve ...

1. The team needs to be more consistent
2. We cannot rely on only two or three high scorers

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

Australia are lucky that Johnson is playing out of this world atm and good on them. They just humbled the best team in their own backyard. Doolan played well on debut, Marsh played well Smith played well but yeah the top order failed again. South Africa also werent at their best, they dropped Warner 3 times in the 2nd innings? He went on to score a hundred. I wouldnt say South Africa are terribe now but they must turn it around quick smart if they are to stop a very fast and unforgiving train like Johnson.

What a dull pitch. Not ideal for a side trying to force it's way back into the series.

Having had a good first day, if we can put up a solid first innings total then it should be pretty hard for us to lose this one, especially with SA lacking an specialist spinner or even Peterson.

SA have a good chance at scoring high this time. 212/5 isn't bad.... If they lose wickets quickly then yes.

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

I didnt watch a lot of it but it sounds like it was a terrible day of cricket lol. Only 5 wickets and 214 runs, considering 2 wickets fell quite early, it would have been quite the boring day.

lose one wicket they're into the tail and Johnson v tail does not last too long, saying that Philander can definitely hold his own with the bat

Agreed. How much runs so you reckon they will get?
