Look at the projectile motion question:

Clearly, the answer is ZERO - its asking for the velocity when it LANDS. If it lands, it's not moving anymore...

Who disagrees?

If you wrote that in a test, that's just a tragic mistake. Sorry.

Technically it's still moving when it lands. AFTER it lands it stops moving.

Even if you disagree that's what you have to assume. So 45ms^-1 to the right.

state the horizontal component of the projectile when the object lands.

asking u for the horizontal component : doesn't change.

sorry its wrong ... if you do 3 unit or 4 unit projectile you would know when it lands the horizontal is not zero or either the vertical if you are moving upwards and landing

FInal velocity is never zero. When it impacts it still has a velocity. In this case since there is no horizontal acceleration, the horizontal velocity will be 45m/s.

Well, fark that.

I hope everyone here is wrong. Why couldn't the BOS used "final horizontal velocity" instead..farken bastards

Hm, I see you have forgotten Galileo's analysis of projectile motion. The vertical component is INDEPENDENT of the horizontal component. So, in essence the horizontal velocity is kept constant (where it undergoes no acceleration), but the vertical acceleration changes (depending on its position on earth). So yeh, good try though, it sounds like something I'd do. But sadly, its wrong. Don't get too worried about it though - its only one mere mark.

It is 45ms-1 but the question should be phrased as -----> "State the horizontal component of the projectiles velocity just before it lands." But you shouldn't try to think of it your way because that's not a practical question. This question was a gimmy.

BOO YEA 45ms all the way... i think i forgot to put 'to the right', does it matter?
I forgot to.
Well velocity is a vector so it probably does matter.
But hopefully the see that we understood the question enough and just give us the damn mark.

anyway, they wont make it so tricky and shit. its cleary 45, due to the fact they said horizontal component anyway.
