It doesn't matter if Brazil gets beaten by 10 goals by Japan, they'll still be above Australia due to the head-to-head record. Goal difference comes in to separating teams when head-to-head record cannot separate the two teams.stazi said:Brazil + 3

We end up winning 1-0, for instance at the 90 min mark (so neither Japan or brazil knows the score and will have to work for a 3-0 japan scoreline)

Japan virtually has no chance of qualifyin. They need Croatia to beat Australia and they need to get a better goal difference than Croatia, or score more goals than Croatia.
