I have an Viewing/Representing asses task due on Tuesday and I can't think of anything. I know all the major themes and all that, but how in the world do I represent them in a collage (or whatever)? I'd rather write an essay.

Yea i wondered about that, i suppose it must be because the characters and plot setting are exactly the same. Although that makes it weird how R&G speak so colloquially/20thC like. Does anyone know when they performed R&G in the '60s that they used Elizabethan costumes? i'm guessing they did...

Well they are in Elizabethan, cause its from Hamlet is it not? If it is related to the original play you would not want two guys in jean's and t-shirts wandering around with Shakespeare's Hamlet! That would not work to well.

hi guys!

i am new, so i am sorry if this has already been answered, just bear with me.
i have an assessment task which requires me to visually represent 3 themes aparent in both hamlet and RAGAD. the themes i have chose are death, fate/destiny and appearences/illusion.

if anyone could please give me any hints/tips or information it would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!! also if anyone could suggest links to where i could find great images of these themes it would be great, thanks,

for death itd be cool if u could get a skull for hamlet and then i spose a letter waranting r and g's death or something

try to interelate your 3 values/themes, so like use a skull for death, and if possible true to use it for fate/destiny, saying that we all end up 'in a box'(ros and guil) and for apperances/illusion, crap on about how hamlet found Yorick's skull when othelia was being burred or something
if u can't use the same items don't worry

as long as u get soe techniques and quotes, and u relate them ull do good

a few questions here.
-What is the Role of the Player in HAMLET and RAGAD?
-What movitates the Player's actions in both plays?

here are my thoughts so far"
-role in Hamlet: mouse trap i.e. catch king's conscience
-role in RAGAD: narrator and sybolizes "truth?"
i have no idea what motivates him :(
as you can see, i currently really don;t have enough to make a speech out of.
so plz help. THNX in advance!

should i do Hamlet instead of the Player? im guessing everyone is doing Ros&Guil/Hamlet- so im tryin to be unique... Hamlet and Player both plays a small role in one of the plays.


edit: im real sorry if this has been asked already...

hey, your speech seems to be going well...tho watch out with the 'unique' parts. sometimes they just don't have neough info

maybe you can try a really unique way to capture Hamlet

tho the player shows changes whihc you could capture... he actually tries to sell pornography to ros and gill, but they are naive and think he is an actor

thx but, its irritating... i cant seem to understand the Players' motivation behind his actions + i need more info on his role/purpose in both plays. im suppose to also talk about How and Why its been transformed (its pretty easy once, i identify the role and motivation)- getting there

btw, does anyone know what/explain the motivation the behind the Player's actions?

I suggest you give us an indication of what you know so far and specific issues you'd like to discuss... the "all-star pass to understanding Transformations" doesn't exist, y'know.

help me!!! um- weird script project

ok - we got this assignment were we have to write a script where the producer of ros n guil is talking to the actors who play ros, guil and the player.

help - we're meant to focus on what the producer wants, the stage directions- how the characters are portrayed - the works!

any suggestions?

Ok, think about it this way... when Stoppard wrote Ros and Guil, the whole idea was for the two bit players to go in search of their author...read Samuel Becketts "Waiting for Godot"...anyway now your job is to take it one step further. Imagine Ros and Guil have found their author ie. the producer... put yourself in their shoes and think about what they might say, i for one think they may have alot of questions to ask.
for eg. - Why did they have to die?
- What was the point of their death?
- Why do they even exist?
-Why didn't Stoppard keep them alive after putting them in the spotlight assuming he values these characters?
- Why transform their characters and not others such as Marcellus, Voltemand, Cornelius and many others who had even less line than Ros and Guil?

In asking all these questions to the producer, along with others you yourself might come up with... also refer to the play and become familiar with Stoppard's style ie. the use of Stichomythia, puns, philosphical thoughts and so on, you can easily create yourself the dialogue that makes up the script.

Oh yeah and to make it really effective, create a setting, make it isolating and add little things like the players band, and in brackets mention how their tone of voice is, their facial expressions.

BEEP! Wrong. They do this all the time. Case in point: Romeo and Juliet Baz Luhrman edition. In less commercial cases as well. They call it a variety of things, from updating for a modern audience, creating a new context, whatever. The point is, it's to make it more accessible for a different audience, and make it, 'different'. It can still work if you have similar lines, and I've seen some cases where they wear jeans/dinner suits/etc in plays.
