OK, this thread is for general procedual questions regarding the HSC exam.

For starters,
Do we have to derive cylinderical shells?
Do we have to show that the area is the summation of the (whateverwe'reusing), delta x-> 0 etc.
Do we have to state (by De Moivre's Therom)?

If you're just offering your opinion, well, we want an answer, not your opinion:p

If no-one knows someone can *shudder* ring the Advice Line.

THis is not my opinion however it has been discussed in the hsc tips forum that:
yopu must derive cylindrical shells
you must show that delta crap, my teacher says that as well
cant giv u definite answer to the third, but it doesnt hurt to do so

also, y dont u want to call the advice line?

You should know people doing 4unit maths lack the nessacery social skills to have a telephone conversation.

I've looked at the marking guidelines e.g. for 3c 2001 paper, 4 mark shells question, and it makes no note of deriving the formula for shells

plus 4 marks for getting correct height/radius, correct limits, correct integration, correct evaluation AND deriving the formula seems a bit little

are you sure?

(and in the worked solutions booklets they sometimes do it, sometimes dont)

I'll just quote the circumference*height*delta(x) formula and come back to it when I have time to spare (which wouldnt happen :p)

Also not everyone doing 4U maths lack social skills
But those who do really really well usually have limited social skills....
But of course there might be a couple of exceptions.
