Hmmmmm....
It has almost been 12 months since the last election, and it is probably about time that we reflect upon the performance of the Rudd Government since it came to office.
Personally, I find it difficult to make any effective assessment of the performance of Government in light of the Financial Crisis and other financial challenges. Most negative indicators are being attributed to these external factors.
However, at what point should the Government start taking responsibility for these indicators?
It is nearing the time where it can no longer attribute problems to the previous Government. It is also nearing the point at which it must start realise that it must respond to these external factors, and not throw their hands up in the air, resigned to these problems.
The government has achieved a number of symbolic gestures. I care not for these. It seems to spend more time calling for inquiries and committees, than implementing the policy it allegedly took to the last election. A number of 'nation building' funds have been created, but to what end? When will the proceeds of these funds be available to address the capital shortfalls in health and education?
Productivity, Education and infrastructure, each of which were pivotal to the ALP Election Platform, have all but vanished until the 'reports' and 'inquiries' are complete.
