Same situation here!

But seeing as I have only had one tute, I would say the ship hasn't sailed.

I met a girl today i saw at orientation and now were friends now (scored her number too!)

But i'm deathly afraid of uni tommorow, its when i have my first long break between classes, so I wont have anything to do :(

From what i've heard you dont make friends as such until at least mid-semester, but I would just suggest getting amongst it and doing everything you can!

People don't stop making friends after the first two weeks of uni, come now, don't be absolutely outrageously ridiculous with your thought process. You're feeling way too sorry for yourself. Like was said before, clean slate, put on an act till you feel more comfortable. Laugh at yourself. Control the things you say. If I meet someone (particularly a girl) I don't tell them I play online games every night do I? No, that's stupid.

No one will know you have no friends now. You're lack of willingness to tell us your course (which would have hundreds of people doing it) shows that you have a lack of willingness to communicate and socialise. You have no friends because you don't want friends. You overcomplicate the thought process and act on none of those thoughts or feelings. You tell yourself you try to make friends because you think so hard about it. I bet you don't put much effort in.

Find someone equally awkward and start talking to them. You should be smart enough to pick it by their body language. Go, son. Be very willing/helpful in tutes/lecs if people aren't understanding stuff.

He hit the nail on the head. Take his advice :) Itll do you good in the long run :D not just in uni, but in life. Remember, University is just a stepping stone, you have a whole career life ahead of you where social interaction and communication is the key to moving up the corporate ladder :)

I'll be your friend!! Hahaha :uhhuh:
Seriously, don't stress about it. But if you are outside and see someone alone, trust me - they want someone to come talk to them. Everyone's in the same boat, and you get used to starting up conversations eventually. They may not end up as your close friends but it's nice to have someone to hang out with for the lecture.

I'm in fifth year and am rather light on friends.

But that's just because I'm not a very nice person.

I really am angry, to those who bully others and only think about themselves.........

its killing me, to know that there are people like me, who had no friends for all their lives.

I've been in Australia for 4 years, i had some friends but all they did was lie to me, try to use me and so on...

I am first in all my classes. and everyone things im a loser !!

you know what: WHO CARES ????

sometimes it hurts me, why havent they tried being friends with me even for once?

but then I say, they arent worth anything. All they know is how to bully people.

but in the end, I'll SUCCEED.

I know that. and i just focus on my studies.

Only because I didnt try to be like them, and im successful everyone is jealous of me.

I dont care anymore.

I know that I'll be happy in the future.

Dont worry my friend.

Dont worryy,, that is all I can say.. they'll be punished for everything they doo, just be patient and wait....

(feel free to pm me if you have any questions)

You just said you don't have any friends.

I cannot imagine why.

usyd has 40 000+ people. of those 40 000 people, there are a LOT of students from the middle of nowhere, and there are a lot of local students trying to make a fresh start. just keep trying! i've been snobbed plenty of times but i try to say hi to new people as often as i can (although i'm still having the "talk to them!" "no don't!" inner dialogue too), so i've gotten to know a few people too.

it's not easy though, it took me until yesterday (~4 weeks) to dig up the courage to talk to anyone in one particular tute, and even though the conversation was short and not really conclusive, i'll be a familiar face for next time. i figure, the more you try, even if you have more failures, you'll have a couple more successes too.

Learn to be alone.

As soon as you learn that, people will approach you out of curiosity.

I've never been the popular one. I've always been the outcast. I've now got friends because I was alone for so long. No-one in my year at highschool knew anything about me until year ten because I was comfortable being on my own.

Eventually they approached me out of curiosity and I now have a large friends base.

This happens much quicker in Uni.
