Ah well, knew this wasn't going to be easy and I told myself I'd be happy with a 50th percentile, and I was close. :) For those like me who didn't go so well, chin up there is always a chance to get around it :)

We all attempted a test that the smartest people in Australia do, so a low rank isn't the end of the world :)

Haha, everyone I knew that did it were basically geniuses. It's half me trying to make myself feel better, for quite a while after checking the email I felt quite stupid. :p. I'm dealing with it surprisingly well actually though, no point dwelling on what has already happened.

Sorry, uncle is not an option since you need at least 50 in each section
Not sure about uws though... I think you need to have over a certain weighted mark or something

I went fairly bad in the UMAT (48 RAW) but my estimated ATAR is quite high (high 90s).

Is there any chance of me still getting into medicine anywhere?

Hey guys these are my results:

Section 1: 76
Section 2: 46 (stunned.. normally my best section)
Section 3: 60

Overall: 61
Percentile: 89

I am from GWS and my first preference is UNSW and second preference UWS. Are my chances for UWS good? Do I have any chance with UNSW to get an interview??? Im looking towards getting a 98+ atar, possibly >99 (if everything goes well for me :p )

The UMAT's an interesting test... I went in not giving a s*** (because I don't want to do undergrad med) and got this:
Section 1- 76
2- 79
3- 60 (haha crash and burn much)
Overall- 72 (99th percentile)
Guess that just shows that you should try not to stress about stuff, because the stress doesn't help you that much. Good job to everyone for doing it though! :D

Thx for the quick reply nucgaek! :)

I was hoping to get into UNSW before my results came in.

So i guess if straight medicine isn't possible, I should start looking into doing medical science and transferring.

Would my UMAT scores hinder my chances of getting into Medcial Science and transferring, or do they disregard it?

UMAT/ATAR requirements for MBBS interviews in NSW universities (based on last year):

UWS:
  • UMAT: For 2011, you needed a weighted score of at least 149 for a GWS student. For a non-GWS student, you need a weighted score of ~156. A weighted score is Section 1 + Section 2 + (0.5 x Section 3).
  • ATAR: 95.50+ for Non-GWS (Greater Western Sydney) student OR 93.50+ for a GWS student. This is a cut-off that you need to pass. No difference between a 96 and 99.95 ATAR for UWS. If you want to know if you are in GWS, go here: http://www.uws.edu.au/medicine/som/applying_to_medicine/mbbs

UNCLE/UNE:
  • UMAT: To qualify, you need a score of 50+ in each section. After that, interviews are given based on section 1 scores. For 2011, cut-off was around 58 at UNCLE. Not sure about UNE.
  • ATAR: 94.30+

UNSW:
  • UMAT/ATAR: UNSW takes both into account. Here's the general table for it:
    UMATATAR
    5499.95
    5699.5
    5999.0
    6498.0
    6797.0
    7096.0
Median ATAR is around 99.50. Also, take into account only a handful of people under 99 ATAR get passed interviews.
