Jews were stateless people, (similar to the Roma), the reason why the push for Palestine specifically is because of their connection to it through their religion (and their religious texts) and historically prior to them being the diaspora of Jews. But as one would also note Palestinians also have the same claims. But again not all Jews are 'Zionists'.
