the movies are overated mainly by ppl who have not read the books, and just enjoy horses getting the crap squished out of them by Fell Beasts and Mamukil.

ppl who have read the books see tonnes of faults with it (mainly the ommisions - like why the hell didnt they even mention the Palantir, mouth of Sauron, saruman's fate, the sapling of the white tree...ok, u get the picture, i'll shaddap).
but then agian, we [i am speaking on behalf of all the Tolkien fans - they will start complaining soon] reckon the film is way better than anyother major movie in recent history (probably because its a chance to visually realise our fantasies - yea, we are sad arent we)

so the die-hard fans are more realistic about the films faults (being too long is defineatly not a fault)

Its the jurnos and cheep, wanna-be critics who 'jump on the bandwaggon' and have overly-overrated headlines.
